HONESDALE, PA — The Greater Honesdale Partnership (GHP) recently awarded $50,000 to 14 local businesses through its Business Improvement Grant Program.

This initiative, made possible by funds from the PA Department of Community and Economic Development and a private donor, supports downtown businesses and encourages job creation. The money will be used for equipment purchases, marketing initiatives, training programs, and building repairs.

Businesses were encouraged to use local vendors for their projects. Those opting to spend locally received higher scores during the application review.

“The improvements made possible by this funding will not only enhance individual businesses but also contribute to the overall vitality of our downtown area,” said Sandi Levens, GHP executive director. “We look forward to seeing the positive changes and continued growth in our community.”

The approved projects include installing air conditioning and heating units, coffee equipment and training opportunities, software purchases, new floors, and updated computers and technology. The businesses plan collectively to invest more than $126,000 in improvements, with more than $58,000 being spent at local businesses to complete these projects.

A second round of GHP funding, totaling $45,000, will be available in January. Request applications by emailing ghp@visithonesdalepa.com or calling 570/253-2542.
