Happy Independence Day!

As the Fourth of July approaches, there’s an undeniable sense of excitement in the air in our little piece of upstate New York. Flags wave proudly from porches, the streets are lined with red, white and blue and in an area like ours, Independence Day isn’t just a holiday—it’s a celebration that brings the entire community together in a shared sense of pride and joy.

The charm of the Fourth of July in a small town lies in its simplicity and heartfelt traditions. From sunrise to well past sunset, there’s a special kind of magic that permeates the day. It’s a time when the lake becomes a meeting place for families and friends to spend the day from sunup to sundown to celebrate the start of summer.

Throughout the day, there are countless activities that capture the spirit of the holiday. From casual backyard barbecues to community-wide events, there’s something for everyone.

Kids enjoy games and races, adults engage in friendly competitions and everyone takes part in the festivities with enthusiasm. The joy is infectious, and it’s impossible not to get caught up in the merriment.

As evening approaches, the anticipation builds for the grand finale: fireworks. You know there is always one show to see! There’s something truly magical about gathering with family and friends to watch the sky light up with vibrant colors. The shared experience of watching the fireworks, with the collective “oohs” and “aahs,” creates a sense of unity and shared wonder that is truly special.

The Fourth of July in the Sullivan Catskills is more than just a celebration of our nation’s independence; it’s a celebration of community, togetherness and the simple pleasures of life. It’s a day when we put aside our differences and come together to honor the values that make our country great.

Here’s to another year of traditions, celebrations and the enduring spirit of small-town America.
