TEXAS TOWNSHIP, PA — The White Mills Hotel was destroyed by fire overnight.
The White Mills Fire Department says it was dispatched at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, to a structure fire in the area of Elizabeth Street and Route 6 and found the structure to be “fully involved.”
Other fire companies to respond included Beach Lake, Hawley, Honesdale, Welcome Lake, Prompton, Seelyville, and Lakeville.
The cause is still unknown and the fire is still under investigation, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The Settler’s Hospitality Group purchased the property last year to convert into housing for its workers and for residents looking for long-term rentals in a market where affordable housing is scarce.
The group is one of the biggest employers in Wayne County, where it owns and operates upscale restaurants and resorts, including The Settlers Inn, Ledges Hotel, and Silver Birches Resort in Hawley. Hotel Anthracite in Carbondale, Sayre Mansion in Bethlehem, and The Chestnut Inn at Oquaga Lake in New York State are also part of the group.
