A second ambulance for Damascus

DAMASCUS, PA — Emergency management equipment is expensive. And when a small ambulance service is able to buy a second ambulance, it’s reason to celebrate.

Members of the Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Service (DTVAC) did just that on July 20 in a dedication ceremony filled with gratitude and optimism. Speakers included Damascus supervisor and DVCAC operational supervisor Steve Adams, PA Sen. Lisa Baker (R, 20) and PA Rep. Jonathan Fritz, (R, 111). Friends and members of the Damascus Historical Society were on hand as well.

Hot dogs and burgers were served, along with freshly made French fries, watermelon, chips and snacks. Children played on the nearby playground, while adults were offered useful information about the Pennsylvania Yellow Dot Program, EMS and the Naloxone opioid rescue medication.

For the past 50 years, DTVAC has provided the community with no-cost ambulance services. The corps provides mutual aid to Tusten, Cochecton, Upper Delaware, Northern Wayne, Pleasant Mount, and Honesdale ambulance companies. In return, those organizations provide mutual aid in emergencies and when more than two ambulances are needed. The corps also works with volunteer fire companies at farm accidents, automobile accidents, and fires.

For more information about joining the corps, call 570-224-4552 or attend a meeting, which are held on the second Monday of every month at the ambulance building, 1290 Cochecton Turnpike, Tyler Hill. Donations may be made to DTVAC at PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415.
