Pike commissioners recognized for saving failing EMS

MILFORD, PA — Pike County Commissioners Matthew Osterberg and Ronald Schmalzle recently received the Dr. George Moerkirk Memorial Contribution to EMS Award.

The award recognized the county’s EMS Matching Grant Program, which provides sustainable funding to support local EMS agencies in Pike. This program combines municipal funding with a match of county dollars, making more than $4 million available annually to support county EMS agencies. The effort has led to the improved availability of emergency medical services for local residents.

The commissioners received citations from PA Sen. Lisa Baker and PA Rep. Jeff Olsommer, who lauded their leadership in transforming a failing EMS system into a robust ambulance service.

Osterberg and Schmalzle acknowledged the contributions of other commissioners, including former commissioners Steve Guccini and Tony Waldron, and current commissioner Christa Caceres, for their support of the program.
