Man dies on scene of three-vehicle crash in Cochecton

Posted

COCHECTON, NY — A fatal accident on County Route 115 in Cochecton, NY, on July 11, claimed the life of Sher Singh.

Singh, 37, of Middletown, NY, died in a head-on collision involving two trucks and one car. One of the trucks was a Budget truck rental.

The NYS Police at Liberty reports that the accident involved three drivers in three vehicles. In addition to Singh, the drivers were Jason Miles, 45, of Troy, NY, and Cedric Paul, 22, of Newburgh, NY.

Manpreet Singh, a family member, told the River Reporter from the hospital that a nurse told him Sher had been hit head-on by the truck, and that the trauma was too great. The nurse said he died at around noon, at the time of the accident.

Emergency responders at the scene told Manpreet that one of the two trucks traveling south on County Route 115 attempted to pass on the left and hit Sher as he traveled north.

According to a statement by the NYS Police, "Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 Ford 650 Budget Rental Truck and a 2023 GMC were traveling north... when the Budget truck crossed over into the opposite lane and struck a 2023 Freightliner traveling south. The initial impact caused the Freightliner to lose control, enter the opposite lane, and strike the GMC, causing the GMC to leave the roadway, and come to rest on the east shoulder."

The police statement says Sher Singh was transported to Garnet Medical Center in Callicoon, where he was pronounced deceased. There were no other injuries.

One of Sher’s family members at the scene of the accident—but not part of the accident itself—owns the CITGO Singh Food Mart in Narrowsburg, NY.

Four people involved in the crash were examined at the scene by members of the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps and were not in critical condition.

The NYS Police, Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and White Lake Fire Department also responded.
