Pipe organ meets Bach, Ray Charles and the Doors

LIBERTY, NY — A concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 is the culmination of a fundraising effort to restore the pipe organ at the Liberty United Methodist Church. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Filmmaker and musician Harrison Killian will perform pipe organ classics from Bach as well as first-time reinterpretations of composers such as Ray Charles and the music of the Doors.

Killian plays an array of musical instruments; he is also a sculptor and an award-winning filmmaker.

He has been featured in a number of outdoor concerts, performing on the bass guitar, drums, keyboard and on the didgeridoo.

This pipe organ concert is a premier event for Harrison and likely the first time Ray Charles and the Doors have ever been re-interpreted on a pipe organ, a spokesperson said.

The concert marks the end of a successful fund drive that has enabled the full restoration of one of the few remaining pipe organs in Sullivan County.

The cost is $5 per person and $10 per family.
