LIBERTY, NY — The premiere of “Voices of Survivors: Inspiring Hope, Sanctuary, Compassion and Community” will take place from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at the Liberty Museum & Arts Center. Egils Liepins, owner of Town & Country, will share his historical experiences, Fisher & Kean will provide the music, and Uma Brooks will share a story about being a child of a survivor.
“Voices of Survivors” is a multiple-medium exhibit of paintings, photographs, poetry and prose that reflects and humanizes the voices of survivors across the generations. These people were and are friends, neighbors and strangers who offered compassion and provided sanctuary. Communities have been created and sustained over time, organizer Hope Blecher said.
The exhibit includes artwork by artists of all ages, including students from Liberty and Sullivan West school districts and members of the Boys & Girls Club in Monticello. Charles Fishman’s photography will be on display, as will that of Liberty students.
Videos of interviews and documentaries will be available to watch, and poetry by multiple poets is featured.
Much more is happening over the weekend. To learn more, or find out about the featured artists, visit www.HopesCompass.org.
The exhibit will remain in place until Sunday, June 16. Hours are from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The center is located at 46 Main St.
Donations are welcome.
