Summer art show at UpFront

PORT JERVIS, NY — A show featuring works by three artists, celebrating nature and cityscapes, will be on view from Saturday, June 1 to Sunday, July 28 at UpFront Exhibition Space.

Bruce Young’s painting, titled “NYC’s Greenwich Village,” is like stepping into the real neighborhood—it invites the viewer to visit a while. Young’s main concentration is pen and ink—in both black-and-white and color—of New York City street scenes. The scenes are meticulously painted in a vibrantly graphic style. Young attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in the late 1960s, and there he developed his fine graphic skill.

Rosalind Hodgkins’s acrylic painting “Cycle 2” is a second visit to this symbolic theme. Her circular crop rotation amplifies time in a clock-like visualization. Hodgkins has frequently used the theme of seasons in her paintings; nature is her subject, she says, and the object of her greatest interest.

Judith Cramer’s “Blue Skies Mountainside” pastel is a trip into the atmosphere. Many layers of color with texture are blended to create an impression of great space. She started young, drawing with her dad at the kitchen table and continuing on to painting and design. Her inspiration is found in nature—trees, flowers, mountains, water and the sky.

The show will include a display of art from sister city Lapio in Italy, and will include a poetry reading and an appearance by the mayor of Lapio.

UpFront Exhibition Space is located at 31 Jersey Ave.
