The Pike County Democratic Committee (PCDC) will honor former Pike County District Attorney and longtime Democratic activist Michael Weinstein at the annual gala on Saturday, June 29 at the Steer Barn at Hemlock Farms.
“We are excited to honor Mike, who has been a staunch Pike County Democrat for decades, including back in the years when there weren’t so many of us,” said Lisa Miller, who chairs the PCDC.
“Mike and I have been friends for decades and worked together on more campaigns than I care to count,” said former Pike County Commissioner Karl Wagner. “He is a classy guy, who has given much to our community.”
Weinstein was elected Pike County District Attorney in 1980 and served until 1988. In the years since, until his retirement in 2021, he was one of Pike County’s most prominent criminal defense attorneys, including representing high-profile defendants. His achievements in the courtroom have been recognized by his peers, law enforcement agencies and the media.
Originally from the Bronx, Weinstein served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves (1966-1970), and graduated from Long Island University (1964) and Brooklyn Law School (1968) before relocating to Pike County in the mid-1970s.
In addition to serving as district attorney, he also served as general counsel to the Delaware Valley School District. He was a 40-year volunteer with the Milford Fire Department and a founding board member of the United Way of Pike County.
The event will also feature as its emcee Barbara Butcher, author of “What the Dead Know: Learning About Life as a New York City Death Investigator,” which was featured at last year’s Milford Readers and Writers Festival. She also is the star of a new Netflix series titled “Homicide: New York.”
