Well, we made it to April and the beginning of spring break week for our local schools. I hope you all have exciting things planned to celebrate the start of spring. The days are getting longer, and the weather appears to finally be cooperating. Wishing you and yours a happy Easter this coming Sunday for those who celebrate.

Here are a few upcoming local events that are happening in our community and nearby towns.

There will be a penny social on April 15 at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church on County Route 116. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling begins at 12:30 p.m. The entrance fee is a $1 donation. Hope to see you there! For questions, call Vicki at 845/932-8923 or Grace at 570/729-8247. They are also looking for school students or adults to help them as runners—taking the prizes to winners—in the penny social. If interested, call Vicky at 845/932-8923.

Save the date: Lake Huntington Lake Association’s first annual Earth Day celebration will be held on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6692 Rte. 52, Lake Huntington, NY. More details to follow when available.

Save the date: The Cochecton Preservation Society will celebrate 30 years after the shovel hit the dirt. Together they will remember the people who helped them along the way to rescue the Erie depot. The remembrance dinner buffet will take place on Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. at the Central House Family Resort in Beach Lake, PA. The price is $45 per person. Email cps12726@gmail.com for more information.

Join the Easter Bunny and the Cochecton Men’s Club at the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. sharp at the Cochecton Men’s Club Sports Complex on County Road 114. Snacks and refreshments will be available.

Save the date for a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 6 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., or until they are sold out. It will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville, NY. You can eat in or take out, and the cost is a $14 donation. Call Kathy at 845/482-4504 or Ruth at 845/482-3804 for advance tickets.
