CALLICOON, NY — First Fridays is back at the Western Sullivan Public Library’s Delaware Free Branch with an open mic and a discussion with teacher and writer Jason Macey on Friday, June 7 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Macey’s work has appeared in Door is a Jar Literary Magazine, Golden Handcuffs Review and Best New Poets. His current major project is a book of creative nonfiction investigating changes in the agricultural industry in Wayne County, PA.
A 17-year veteran of the Wayne Highlands School District, Macey successfully launched and developed Honesdale High School’s creative writing program, for which he has been its sole educator. Career highlights include mentoring students to five national medals in the Scholastics Writing Awards, one of which was an American Voices Award winner.
He says he is most gratified, however, by the growth he is allowed to witness in his students as they continue their journeys through high school and beyond.
All performers and poets are welcome; you can share a poem, song, story or other inspiration. Register on the library’s calendar at www.WSPLonline.org.
For additional information, email wsplprograms@rcls.org.
This event is funded with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
The Delaware Free Branch is located at 45 Lower Main St.
To view all the library’s programs, visit the calendar at www.wsplonline.org, where you can register if necessary. Email wsplprograms@rcls.org with any questions.
