Oh, little town of Narrowsburg

The weather outside is frightful, but normal; Narrowsburg is delightful. Play local. Buy local. Celebrate local. There are many wonderful things to do while waiting for Santa Claus to arrive or relatives to leave. Make your list and check it twice, because even when things are naughty, they’re nice, thanks to mainstays like the Chamber of Commerce, the Tusten Youth Commission, the Narrowsburg Union and the DVAA.

Sunday, December 5, officially inaugurates the season when the Narrowsburg Tree Lighting puts Rockefeller Center to shame. Activities run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In the past, there have been sleigh rides, family photography sessions, live music and, of course, Santa’s first appearance of the season. Find out what surprises the Chamber has in store this year!

Supporting local artisans has never been easier, thanks to the Narrowsburg Union’s Holiday Market on Saturdays and Sundays, starting on November 27. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Handicrafts such as quilters, soap makers, bakers and metal workers have been on display in the past. Catskills Curated can provide the wrapping. You can even send the gifts home via the Union Pack and Ship. The Narrowsburg Union—one-stop shopping at its best.

Wait—you’re one of those people who wants their shopping done before Thanksgiving? Over-achievers rejoice! Art in Sixes is back. This iconic art show, which opened on November 20, will be up throughout the holidays. Discover what everyone is talking about this year.  Local artists are offering works of no more than six inches by six inches in size for sale.

Santa’s elves can pick up their purchases just in time for Christmas, on December 23.

Of course, the best way to make sure you stay on the nice list is to be charitable during this season of giving and getting. Gift donations for kids in need can be dropped off at the Narrowsburg Post Office at 75 Main Street.

Remember those celebrating the festival of lights, Hanukkah. Lighting the menorah begins on Sunday, November 28 and continues through Monday, December 6.

On behalf of all of us over the River Reporter, and through the woods—happy holidays. God bless us all everyone.
