DAMASCUS, PA — Tri-Gal 4-H Club is off to a busy start as the new 4- H year begins. 

The new 4-H year begins each October, and we started it off with a full calendar of community service projects. 

Our club collected over 70 new and used towels for Town and Country Veterinary Clinic when we received a call to help. 

Each year the United Women of Faith at the Damascus Manor United Methodist Church fills plastic shoe boxes for the Red Bird Mission Project with essential items, which are then sent to Kentucky for distribution. Our club was happy to provide two boxes for children. 

These boxes are given out to people who are in need, such as those in areas affected by natural disasters.  

Following our meeting on October 1, members helped set up for the Old Time Fiddlers Concert held on October 13 at the Unity Grange Hall in Galilee.

Braving the rainy, cold weather, available leaders and members were on hand at the Damascus Community Center Playground Open House on Sunday, October 29, offering a fall art activity and chocolate chip cookies. 

Immediately following the playground open house, we handed out candy at the Damascus Community Center Trunk or Treat from our spider-themed car. This was our first year at the Trunk or Treat and we look forward to next year.

After our meeting on October 1, we had an end-of-the-year ice cream party to celebrate all the great things we did during the past year and the wonderful accomplishments our members achieved at the 2023 Wayne County Fair. 

To honor National 4-H Week, which was held October 1-7, we created a display at the Dime Bank in Damascus, using pieces of our larger display from the fair to show our 4-H pride.

Thank you, Dime Bank, for allowing us to use this space each year. 

Our club also enjoyed a field trip to the Carousel Fun Park Corn Maze on Sunday, October 22. Don’t worry—all the grown-ups made it out! 

We had one member participate in the Wayne County Fall Round-Up held on Saturday, October 21 in Honesdale. Channing Rutledge, our club treasurer, won Grand Champion Potato with her red potato entry and Reserve Grand Champion with her mini pumpkin entry.
