Nancy (Nanci) Elizabeth (Ropke) Rome, daughter of the late Herman and Dorothy Ropke of Narrowsburg, NY, and a resident of Donaldsonville, LA, passed away in Baton Rouge, LA on September 18, 2024.

As an elementary school teacher at Ascension Catholic, Galvez Primary and Oak Grove Primary schools in Ascension Parish, Nanci touched many lives over her 37-year career.

Nanci enjoyed the outdoors all her life, from hiking the family homestead in Narrowsburg, swimming at Rock Lake, hiking the Ten Mile River, cross-country skiing and rafting the Delaware to exploring as many National Parks and botanical gardens as she possibly could.

She loved her family and friends ardently and was always there to listen and help when needed. She especially loved being with and exulting in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
She was a photographer of all beautiful things in nature and especially flowers, and her love for travel and exploration fueled her love of photography.

Nanci is survived by her three children: Jenny Kelly, Christopher Rome and Phillip Rome; her two grandchildren: Lyra and Ben; her sisters: Dianne Robertson and Carol Nelson; and several sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Nanci was predeceased by her parents and her brother Kenneth Ropke.

A memorial will be held in Atlanta, GA for immediate family, and a service will be held in Narrowsburg in 2025 on a date to be announced.
