“I sought the Lord, and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalms 34:4

Dora Faye Birth Henry, 79, of Damascus, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA with her daughters by her side. Preceding her in death: beloved husband Gordon E. Henry; son Kevin Addley; and stepchildren Lisa Henry and Gordon “Bud” Henry.

Born April 22, 1945 in Callicoon, NY, she was the daughter of the late Herman F. and Mildred L. (Canfield) Birth.

She was raised in the Canfield family home in Damascus. Dora graduated from Damascus High School in the class of 1963.

She loved music (especially traditional hymns), bird watching, crafting, reading her Bible and watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

She was very active in the community: the Damascus Food Pantry, the Damascus Historical Society, My Brother’s Quilt and various township boards.

Dora served on many boards at her beloved church, Damascus Manor United Methodist, and participated in just about all the missions at the church.

She is survived by stepdaughter Tina Tenney (Shawn, Alyssa and Shane); her God-sent daughter, Melissa Rutledge (Bruce, Brea and Channing); many cousins; and close friends Patricia Neer and the Neer family, and Matt and Beth Salzameda.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services. Following cremation, interment will be in Baker Cemetery, Guilford, VT with her late son and husband.

The family wishes to thank her friends and community for everything you did for her: Megan Wessman of Damascus Manor United Methodist Church, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Cancer Care Center, Wayne Memorial Hospice, and Ellen Memorial Red Wing and Administration for their exceptional and compassionate care for our beloved Dora.

Memorial donations can be made to Damascus Manor United Methodist Church or the Damascus Food Pantry.

If you are unable to make a donation, in Dora’s memory please remember to do random acts of kindness and volunteer time to organizations that touch your heart.

Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc.; Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director; 269 Belmont St.; Waymart, PA 18472. www.HowellFamilyFuneralHome.com
