Making the trails safe and clean

A report from Maple Line 4-H Club

DAMASCUS, PA — The Maple Line 4-H Club chose a community service project to clean up the hiking trails at Damascus Township Park.

The club met at the township building at on May 7. Leaders went over the plan for clearing away trees, leaves and any other debris that would cause a safety concern.

The members then got straight to work, moving fallen trees and raking away any leaves and sticks; they also took in the trail’s unique features.

The members were taught how to work together when moving the fallen trees.  Members and leaders spent time checking trees that had markers showing the type of trees they were and kept hikers on the trails.

After the group was finished with the clean-up project, a meeting was held in the pavilion. Animal growth and development was discussed with leaders, along with display ideas by members for entry at the Wayne County Fair.

Fundraising ideas were also decided by members.

Once the meeting was adjourned, the members got to play a game of kickball and enjoy pizza.

Maple Line 4-H Club is a small group that is enthusiastic about farming, outdoors and group activities.  Each member dedicates their time and effort to livestock and agriculture entries for the Wayne County Fair, which is held in Honesdale at the beginning of August.
