Lots of fun before summer’s end

It’s so hard to believe we are headed into August. This summer has really been flying by! I’m looking forward to one more month with the kids home before school starts.

The Fall Sports FAMILYID is open for all students who wish to play a fall sport in middle school or high school this year. Fall sports practice in the Sullivan West School District begins for JV/varsity football on Saturday, August 19; all other JV/varsity sports begin on Monday, August 21, and modified sports begins on Thursday, September 7. Check the school website, www.swcsd.org, under the Athletics tab for more information.

The Cochecton Youth Commission has numerous upcoming events for our youth. See below for more information and contacts for each event.

Wayne County Fair

Join the Cochecton Youth Commission (CYC) for a night out at the Wayne County Fair in Honesdale, PA on Friday, August 4 at 5 p.m. The event is free to Cochecton youth.

Text Michelle at 570/419-8801 for additional information. Do not send any questions through the Facebook page and/or email as the commission does not check them often.

Paint night

Join the CYC on Friday, August 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a night of art and learning about the ecosystem of Lake Huntington, NY.

In this project, children will learn how to draw different elements of the lake. There will be discussion about the importance of each animal and mini-ecosystem, and how it contributes to the overall health of Lake Huntington. Kids can learn the ways all can help the lake become healthier, as it currently falls into the impaired category.

Cochecton youth will leave with a 9-inch-by-12-inch completed piece of art, a watercolor cake set, a salt shaker and a marker so they can do additional projects at home.

This free event is for Cochecton youth only.

Football game

Join the CYC for an NFL game (Giants vs. Jets) on Sunday, October 29 at MetLife Stadium. This event is free to Cochecton youth.

Do not send any questions through the CYC Facebook page and/or email as the commission does not check them often. To contact Sue, text 845/866-0853.

The programs are funded in full or in part by the Sullivan County Youth Bureau.

Baseball game

Keep an eye out for our Cochecton Youth trip to a New York Yankees game this summer. Details coming soon.

Note: Direct all questions to the trip coordinator as the CYC does not check email or Facebook daily.

If you have a local business that you would like to have spotlighted in an upcoming column, get in touch. Email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events and happenings.
