FORESTBURGH, NY — The Forestburgh Playhouse, New York State’s oldest continuously operating professional summer theatre, has added “Roja,” a new musical by Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman, to its lineup for In the Works ~ In the Woods; a preview event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.
The preview offers a selection of music from “Roja” and other pieces from Jaime Lozano’s catalog. Attendees can meet Lozano and Newman, whose previous work, “El Otro Oz,” debuted at the inaugural festival in 2021.
The musical tells the story of a young girl in America who, guided by a mischievous, magical coyote, embarks on a journey to Mexico to reconnect with her mother and come to terms with her father’s loss. It blends the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” with Mexican folklore.
The artists have developed “Roja” at the playhouse, and will return in September with a full cast for performances during the festival weekend.
To RSVP for the May 25 event, email the box office at boxoffice@fbplayhouse.org.
Attendees can also purchase or renew their passports for the 2024 festival.
For more information about the upcoming season and to explore ticketing options, visit www.fbplayhouse.org or call 845/794-1194.
And don’t forget the return of Somerville to the Forestburgh Tavern on Friday, May 24 at 8 p.m. for a night of music, food and dancing. The show’s proceeds will benefit the Liberty Rotary Club.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $15.
