4-H Explorers learn the Heimlich maneuver and more

HAMLIN, PA — Every year, the Wayne County 4-H Explorers Club has guest speakers. One guest speaker was Dr. Sarah Sitoski, a pediatrician at PAK Pediatrics, who came to help us better understand our 4-H project, which will be entered into the Wayne County Fair.

Dr. Sarah showed us how to do the Heimlich maneuver, to help a person who is choking.

She also talked to us about how you have to do some lifesaving procedures differently for different ages. One example was how to do CPR, and another was how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) machine.

We also got to try using a CPR dummy.

Dr. Sarah made sure we knew the importance of epinephrine, or the EpiPen.

She also let us try a test on ourselves. We also talked about cuts, seizures and concussions.

Overall, we learned a lot about first aid.
