ALBANY, NY — Delegates representing 4-H members in New York State enjoyed the opportunity to expand their knowledge of state government when they traveled to Albany for the 88th annual 4-H Capital Days event, which took place from April 16 to April 18.
Nearly 100 teen delegates and their chaperones attended, representing 4-H members from counties across the state.
During this year’s event, 4-H members, volunteer leaders and staff met with leaders in state government, members of the court system and officials from a variety of state agencies.
The participants learned about speaking to their legislators and career opportunities in government as they toured state agencies, participated in discussion sessions, and visited with their legislators.
They also took the opportunity to tour the Capitol and visit the Corning Tower, the New York State Museum and other significant features of the area.
Representing Sullivan County were Beth Sykes of North Branch, a member of the 4-H Moo Juicers Club; and Colin Phelps of Callicoon, a member of Small Town Country 4-H. Leaders Amy Kerber and Jenny Phelps accompanied the delegates.
The New York State Association of Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Educators sponsors the 4-H Capital Days program.
