I have no personal connection to the case, but am rather disturbed by the doctor’s several disputes about James Garrity’s experience.

When one lives a lifetime with unpredictable hypoglycemia, one learns to be cautiously preventive—as Garrity does. Often one’s livelihood requires a car commute, particularly in rural environs. In this case, unfortunately, there was a tragedy, but accidents do happen when one least expects them to: they can be due to cardiac arrest, TIA, driver fatigue, a hit and run, etc. 

In Garrity’s case after an episode occurs, yes, one feels back to “normal” and goes back to biz as usual. That’s not being cavalier or lessening the lives of the victims.

I do believe the legal outcome was unusually harsh for Garrity, but as I know from wearing the moccasins, Big Pharma doesn’t always get it right either. 

I hope Garrity appeals in court; itQ’s worth the try. Take it from a person who has lived decades longer than the doctor, knowing all too well that annoying hypoglycemia coupled with narcolepsy can cost one’s career as did it mine. But I’m still alive with a clean driving record.
