As a consumer, I’ve had enough of government mandates messing with the private sector and infringing on consumer choice. The EPA’s recently finalized rule mandating an increase in electric vehicles is just the latest example.

According to news outlets, the EPA’s new tailpipe-emissions rule mandates a steep increase in the number of new electric vehicles (i.e. fully battery and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) offered by auto manufacturers. 

This means that EVs will make up more than half of the vehicles sold for model years 2030 to 2032. 

Whether or not someone decides to buy an EV is a choice that should be made by consumers based on what is best for them. Many environments do not favor EVs, and present a hardship to the consumer. Our choices shouldn’t be limited because the government has decided to dictate what type of cars we can drive and what the private sector should manufacture. 

The EPA rule is an extreme overreach by the government.
