HONESDALE, PA — After a year's hiatus, Honesdale’s 53rd Annual Summer of Events is back in full swing and sweet sounds filled Central Park once more. The event features free live music each Monday and Thursday throughout the summer.
At the concert on June 28, The Luongo Brothers kept the crowds tapping their feet and singing along to hits from the ’50s and ’60s like Joe Jones’ “California Sun” and The Everly Brothers’ “Bye Bye Love.”
The Luongo Brothers band is comprised of Nick and Pat Luongo, former members of the band The Poets. Rounding out the group are drummer Rich Marmo and keyboardist Alan Shields.
The event marked their debut on the Fasshauer Stage.
Performing alongside them was teenage Elvis impersonator Gino Mercuri, a frequent collaborator with the Luongo Brothers. Mercuri gave a passionate performance, ending on The King’s 1964 song “Viva Las Vegas.”
Many that have seen him live have said “If I close my eyes, I’d swear it was Elvis.” Mercuri was invited to perform at Graceland this year.
Audience members were glad to get out and see the event and the performers were glad to be able to be back on stage again.
“We’ve had a bad year, but now, I feel like we’re pretty much back where we should be,” said Nick Luongo.
The next concert is currently scheduled for July 5 with the Fabulous 45’s. There will be no concert on July 2, due to the next day’s Independence Day Celebration.
