GRAHAMSVILLE, NY AND ONLINE — Learn about the medicines the colonists grew and made at a workshop on herbal remedies at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at Time and the Valleys Museum. You can attend in person or online.

Registered herbalist Richard Mandelbaum of Forestburgh will examine the history of herbalism in 18th-century America, exploring some of the prominent herbal remedies using plants found locally. Local Lenape medicine and its significant contribution to herbal medicine will be included.

Mandelbaum is a clinical herbalist with a private practice, offering personal holistic health consultations both online and in person in Forestburgh. In addition, he teaches classes in clinical herbal medicine, phytochemistry, medicine making, field botany and foraging. He is a founder and faculty member at the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism and is on the faculty at the Center for Herbal Studies and the Won Institute of Graduate Studies (woninstitute.edu). Mandelbaum has been an avid student of our native flora for close to 40 years. He has been practicing as an herbalist since 1999, blending the use of native and local medicinal plants with Chinese and Western herbal traditions.

There is no charge for members; the cost to non-members is $5. In-person attendance also includes admission to the museum’s exhibitions and shop, as well as light refreshments.

To join the program virtually, register by email at info@timeandthevalleysmuseum.org and put “Herbal Medicine in Colonial America” in the subject line, or call 845/985-7700. A link will be sent to you.

Non-members will be asked to first make a donation on the museum’s website at www.timeandthevalleysmuseum.org/support/donate.
