HAMLIN, PA — The Salem Community Church Food Pantry was the recipient of the second half of the Farmers Care food drive.
The Western Wayne National Honor Society, in partnership with the Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau, collected approximately $1,000 worth of food products for this pantry.
The other half of the donation was delivered to the Honesdale Emergency Pantry on February 19.
The Salem Community Church Pantry began 10 years ago and is administered by Jerry Peet and Valerie Pappas. Families struggling with food insecurity call for an appointment and can choose the foods they need. The church purchases beef and chicken, which is provided to each family with the canned goods.
At this time, the pantry is assisting 35 families, but they said they see the need growing in the community.
The Farmers Care program recognizes the commitment of farmers to producing healthy and affordable food for our communities.
Contributed by the Wayne Pike Farm Bureau.
