Embracing the Christmas season

Posted

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, either spending time with family or friends or both.

And now that Thanksgiving has passed it is time for all things Christmas.

The Lake Huntington Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society would like to thank all the bakers, volunteers and community members who helped make the Election Day bake sale and food basket raffles a success. We are truly blessed to live in a wonderful community called Cochecton. Blessings to all this holiday season! Merry Christmas!

I love that our communities offer so many different events to celebrate the holidays. Here are a few different events taking place locally:

Join the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church, County Road 116 in Lake Huntington, NY, at the Christmas hymn sing. All are welcome. All are invited to join the members of the church and our community members to attend our first Christmas Hymn Sing on Friday, December 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Call Vicky Krauss at 845/932-8923 so the church knows how many people will be attending and how much soup and how many hot dogs and cookies will be needed.

We will be singing classic Christmas songs and Christmas hymns. It’s free and fun for all. Merry Christmas!

On Saturday, December 2, come to the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Park on 82 Smales Rd. in Lake Huntington, as we celebrate the spirit of community and honor the dedication of our incredible volunteer members in emergency medical services (EMS). Beginning at 4 p.m., people will plant fall bulbs, and at 5 p.m. all can experience the magic of the season as the park is illuminated with a dazzling display of red and white lights, representing the unwavering commitment of our volunteer members in EMS with a tree lighting ceremony.

Hot cocoa and snacks will be provided.

Holiday magic will also happen on Saturday, December 2 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY. This free event will consist of the annual tree lighting on the deck, cookies and hot refreshments, horse-drawn carriage rides, and more. It’s co-presented by the Narrowsburg Chamber and Tusten Youth Commission.

Join the Chi Hive Gym & Wellness for an open house and holiday party on Saturday, December 2, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Enjoy free open gym all day, kids’ open play from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and explore a playful, safe and supportive community. Try classes for free, meet the trainers, and learn about their offerings. Celebrate the holiday spirit with treats and healthy libations. Drop in for a tour, classes and festive vibes.

The Chi Hive Gym & Wellness is located at 22 Main St. in Narrowsburg.

Santa Claus will be at the Delaware Youth Center at 8 Creamery Rd. in Callicoon, NY, on Saturday, December 2 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. There is a $5 donation/photo charge, and all monies benefit the Delaware Youth Center. Photography is by Jeanne Sager Photography.

Dickens on the Delaware will take place in Callicoon on Saturday, December 9 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Callicoon will be transformed into a winter wonderland with holiday trees, festive wreaths and streets filled with holiday lights.

Shops, galleries and restaurants will highlight their holiday goods and dazzle town visitors with their holiday spirit. Shopkeepers will be dressed in Victorian costumes.

Callicoon retailers will all stay open until 8 p.m. to highlight the beauty of the historic town in the evening, and town visitors will be able to warm their hands by outdoor fire pits.

Callicoon restaurants, bars and pubs will feature holiday food and cocktail specials, along with eggnog and hot chocolate to get visitors into the holiday spirit.

Come to Callicoon for the holidays and dress up as your favorite Dickens character or indulge in a Victorian costume.
