Bus drivers quarantined

MILFORD, PA — The consequences of the Delaware Valley School Board’s (DVSD)  relaxation of COVID-19 safety protocols took an ominous turn on December 7 when all school campuses were closed after at least 16 school bus drivers could not report to work due to COVID-19 exposure.  The district employs 52 drivers.

According to Pennsylvania State Department of Health guidelines, unvaccinated persons who have close exposure to a COVID-19 infected person must quarantine for 10 days. Vaccinated persons do not have to quarantine.

In response to the district-wide snow day, which was called on December 7, the administration instituted an emergency plan to bus elementary students to school and required the middle school and high school students to utilize remote learning, via zoom.  Approximately 4,000 students were impacted.

According to Covid Act Now, Pike County lags the state in vaccination rates, with less than 50% of its residents fully vaccinated. Currently, the county is seeing positive test rates it has not experienced since April 2020.

On September 28, the DVSD Board of Education approved a resolution loosening mask requirements on campus, which resulted in an observable reduction in COVID-19 safety protocols.
