LIBERTY, NY — Liberty school district superintendent Dr. Patrick Sullivan will speak at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 24 as part of the Voices of Survivors exhibition at the Liberty Museum and Arts Center.

The exhibition, fully titled “Voices of Survivors: Inspiring Hope, Sanctuary, Compassion and Community,” is composed of art that reflects and humanizes the experiences of survivors of trauma. It includes covering the stories of survivors and their children, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents and parents.

“There were and are friends, neighbors and strangers who offered compassion, provided sanctuary and from which communities have been created and sustained over time,” said organizer Hope Blecher.

The featured art includes works by Tony Canger; Gene Iovine; Tibor Spitz; Nya Reebe; Raphael Wettenstein; Allison Luci; Steve Duffy; Adela Blaustein and Bliss Blaustein; and young people at the Liberty Central and Sullivan West school districts and the Boys & Girls Club.

Photography is by photojournalist Chuck Fishman and Liberty High School students. Other work is from the Dove-Daffodil-Dash in October 2023. Poets too have contributed, including Shelley Marcus, Alyssa Thalmann, Marilyn Laufer, Chana Pollack, Miro Mniewski, Tina H., Jeanne T., Dr. Hope Blecher and Mykenzie Williams.

The exhibition will be in place until Sunday, June 16.

The museum is open Fridays through Sundays from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

This series was made possible through volunteers, contributions of time and materials and donations.

The museum is located at 46 Main St.
