ALBANY, NY — Staff members from the New York State Office of the Comptroller (OSC) will attend community events throughout the state to provide information and assistance on unclaimed funds. They’ll offer free one-on-one sessions where individuals can receive help searching for their unclaimed funds and filing claims. The OSC holds over 46 million accounts valued at $18.4 billion as of June.
New Yorkers can access an online database administered by the OSC to check for unclaimed funds. These funds, which total billions of dollars, originate from various sources, such as utility deposits, trust funds, old bank accounts, uncashed checks, old investment accounts, insurance claims, stocks and other inactive accounts that have remained dormant for several years. The comptroller’s office can trace lost money from accounts that date back several decades.
OSC officials will hold an event at the Liberty Farmer’s Market, 50 Community Ln., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18. An event will also be held at the Monticello Farmers Market, 10 Jefferson St., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20.
An in-person presentation will be held at the E.B. Crawford Public Library, 479 Broadway, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25.
