ALBANY, NY — Catskill Brewery has medaled in two categories at the 2023 New York State Craft Beer Competition. The competition is presented by the New York State Brewers Association and is recognized as the broadest competition featuring the most breweries and the best beers in New York State. 

Catskill Brewery won Gold in the Hazy Double IPA category for Ratface Macdougall. 

The other medal winner is Grass Wagon, which took Bronze in the American IPA Variations category as a Session IPA. This is the third year in a row that Grass Wagon has garnered medals in this category, winning Bronze in 2022 and Gold in 2021. 

“I’m extremely proud that the hard work and dedication of our team paid off in this way,” said Mike McQuiston, head brewer for Catskill Brewery. “These beers represent just a part of who we are as a brewery, and it’s wonderful to have them get this level of acknowledgement—especially considering that these are tough categories with tons of fantastic entries.” 

The annual NYSBA contest is open to the more than 500 craft breweries in New York state, from Long Island and New York City and across Upstate to the Adirondacks and the Niagara frontier. It is billed as the largest state-level beer competition in the country. This year it drew 1,300 entries covering 27 different beer style categories. A panel of industry experts conducted the blind tasting and judging in Rochester, and the medals and awards were handed out at the New York State Brewers Conference in Albany.
