Callicoon Country Fair celebrates 40 years

CALLICOON, NY — The Callicoon Business Association will hold the Callicoon Country Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 throughout the hamlet.

This year, the fair will celebrate its 40th anniversary with music, shopping, food and games.

Lower Main Street, the Callicoon Depot and Callicoon Creek Park will be filled with over 60 vendors. Local farms, artisans and craftspeople from throughout the region will display and sell their wares alongside outdoor pop-ups from our member businesses and local nonprofit organizations.

Entertainment kicks off at the Callicoon Depot Main Stage at 10 a.m. with the sounds of classic rock with a fiddle twist by Catbird (Keith Newman and Lynn Reno). They’ll be followed by Line Dancing with April Michelle until 12 noon.

Local musicians and bands will perform through the afternoon. You’ll hear country-rock and rock by Dr. Six String & Friends, mystical music man James G. Barry; singer-songwriter Lucas Maehara Rotman; Poison Love Band’s acoustic Americana with lead fiddle; a mix of Americana, folk, Celtic and mandolin music by Bard of the Hills (Rich Northup); Caswyn Moon’s punky yet melodic Americana; and Faith Kelly’s folk rock’n’roll.

Callicoon Creek Park will offer children’s activities throughout the afternoon. Bring the kids to enjoy free pony rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as face painting, farm animals, a dunk tank, lawn games and more.

Heather Lockwood of Lockwood Creation Studio will lead a community tapestry project in the hamlet’s center—all are invited to add their yarn. The tapestry will be on display at the Callicoon Artwalk in October.

Randy Bushart, historian of the Callicoon Depot, will give presentations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the history of the station and railway with a slideshow of historical photographs. Tours of the depot will be offered until 4 p.m., courtesy of Callicoon Depot Inc.

Food will be available from local restaurants such as the Creek House Grill, Black Walnut and the Western Inn, as well as snacks and sweets from Honey Brie & Berries, Catskill Mountain Corn, Baked by the Lake and B-Line Ice Cream.

Refreshments will be available all day at Callicoon’s restaurants and at the depot, on offer from Seminary Hill Cidery, Shrewd Fox Brewery and Sway & Papi’s.

You can shop local crafts and products such as hand-made charcuterie boards, tie-dye clothing, screen printing, hand-dyed fabrics, beauty products, candles, wreaths, fresh produce, arts and crafts, and leather goods. And it’s not Callicoon without antiques, art and furniture.

This event was made possible in part by a grant program from the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association.

The Callicoon Business Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization, dedicated to the promotion, beautification, economic development and community building in the hamlet of Callicoon. For more information, email the events committee at events.callicoon@gmail.com
