As the school year winds down

We are in the final days of the school year, and with that comes anticipation for summer vacation for most! My children are ready for a summer filled with fun.

When it comes to gearing up for the end of the school year, be sure to check the school website for events, field trips and end-of-school festivities.

Mark your calendars that for the Sullivan West Elementary School, dismissal on Thursday, June 22 and Friday, June 23 will be at 11:45 a.m. Buses will be loaded at 11:30 a.m. and will leave at 11:45 a.m. Please plan accordingly.

June 13 will be the last day of school for middle school students, and high school graduation is set for June 23 at 7 p.m. Check the school website for up-to-date events and changes.

There are many activities happening in and about our community in the upcoming weeks. Have a look at a few below:

Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church is having a chicken BBQ—takeout only! The chicken is made by the Famous Brooks BBQ, and the barbecue will be held on Saturday, July 8. Pick up dinners at the church hall from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The price of the dinners is $14, and the dinners are available by pre-sold tickets only. Call Vicky Krauss at 845/932-8923 for tickets.

The Hector’s Inn ninth annual car show will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 12 noon. All vehicles are welcome. If it has wheels, bring it on in. There’s no judging of cars and no entry fee. Just people with the same interests as you... here to share their cars and stories. No car, no worries... stop by to check out the vehicles and vendors; listen to the music. Food will be available. Free admission.

Season passes for Lake Superior State Park are on sale through Friday, June 30 for Sullivan County residents. Get your passes today for a full season of fun.

If you have a local business that you would like to have spotlighted in an upcoming column, get in touch. Email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events and happenings.
