PORT JERVIS, NY — The Altered Nine, a Hudson Valley-based jazz nonet, will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the UpFront Exhibition Space.
The space’s gallery will open at 1 p.m. for the current art show and will remain open until the concert begins.
The Altered Nine focuses on improvisation within arrangements. While comparisons to big band music are fair and inevitable, the band said, their work showcases the individual players—making it a small big band.
The repertoire draws from the “post bebop” and progressive jazz eras as well as Altered Nine’s own music.
Members of the band are established players and educators in the Hudson Valley and Tri-State areas.
Tickets at the door cost $20.
The center is located at 31 Jersey Ave.
