‘Wizard of Oz’ at Honesdale High School

HONESDALE, PA — You’ve seen the movie, and now you can see it live. Honesdale Performing Arts presents “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m., at the Honesdale High School Performing Arts Center.

Danielle Gager stars as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl who dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.” Dorothy’s dream comes true when she, her dog Toto and her family’s house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before. Unfortunately, she makes a mortal enemy of a wicked witch, played by Ruth Ihlefeldt, when the house falls on the hag’s sister. Now, befriended by Calvin Rosar as the scarecrow without a brain, Justin Schumacher as a tin man with no heart, and Blaine Bolella a cowardly lion, Dorothy sets off to ask the all-powerful Wizard of Oz, played by Daniel Peoples, for his help to return home. She’s helped by Glinda the Good Witch, played by Lily Taraschuk.

The all-star cast includes Honesdale High School’s Makayla Aikens, Robert Ammann, Abbigail Barton, Blaine Bolella, Vanessa Bolster, Aviana Branning, Jocelyn Cornwall, Mason D’Albora, Abbi Decker, Odilia Dyer, Danielle Gager, Jocelyn Hnath, Ruth Ihlefeldt, Moira Lawrence, Emma McKeon, Destiny McPeak, Brenna Miller, Renée Miller, Abby Mizwinski, Saphyra Olver, Anna Passarelli, Daniel Peoples, Olivia Pinto, Harriet Roden, Calvin Rosar, Karli Rowles, Shanzay Salman, Justin Schumacher, Lexi Schumacher, Sean Smith and Lily Taraschuk.

Featured also are Wayne Highlands Middle School actors and actresses Iris Amato, Evelyn Bond, Sophia Bond, Brynn Derrick, Gabriella Foley, Anthony Fortuso, Eli Funk, Lyla Rose Hanson, Benjamin Klisiewicz , Brielle Knapp, Emma Leopardi, FrannySue Menechino, Madison Mertz, Jenna Murray, Addie Nacinovich, Leonora Orellana Anton, Adrianna Patrisso, Kinley Platt, Jonah Pritchard, Marley Reynolds, Riley Schmidt, Alina Shanfelder, Ivan Thol, Kinnley Turner and Mackenzie White as the Munchkins and Oz residents. 

The musical is directed by Scott D. Miller; with musical direction by Martha Curtis; pit director Betty Ann Robson; choreography, hair, makeup and costume design by Mason Marie Clark; assistant musical director Geri Spinosa; technical directors Shawn Garing; and set design by Stacy Roerig.

Reserved seating tickets are on sale now. Regular tickets cost  $10, senior (+62) tickets cost $9, student tickets cost $8, and those for children aged three to five cost $5.

Purchase tickets online at www.honesdalepac.com or by calling the Honesdale Performing Arts box office at 570/251-9831. Performances are recommended for a general audience, aged five and up. All guests entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
