PIKE COUNTY, PA AND ONLINE  The Board of Commissioners of Pike County has established a First Time Homebuyer program.  A webinar to explain the program will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 27.

The program can assist potential homebuyers who would like to buy a home, but are concerned they don't have enough money. Aimed at low- to modest-income homebuyers, the program would overcome the obstacles created by the total cost of purchasing a home.

Pike County recognizes the importance of homeownership stability as a revenue source for the county, communities, schools and tax base, a spokesperson for the county said. The Pike County First Time Homebuyer Program "will alleviate the cost burden and lower the overall borrowed amount to encourage continued investment into Pike County. "

Pike County will partner with NeighborWorks of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NWNEPA. NWNEPA will provide education services and evaluation criteria, and will determine the total funds needed for each eligible individual or household.

NWNEPA will collaborate with all parties vested in homebuying transactions.

This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and is contingent on the availability of funds.

This project was financed by a grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, under the administration of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development.
