Volunteers needed for AARP tax aide program

LIBERTY, NY — Would you be interested in a meaningful volunteer position? If so, AARP Tax Aide is looking for you.

Sullivan County residents can volunteer for the program, preparing taxes for others—and you don’t have to be an AARP member.

If you have any experience with computers, and especially if you have prepared your own taxes, why not volunteer? Volunteer tax preparers will be trained to assist seniors as well as low- to moderate-income individuals and families.

AARP will provide the training. Most of it will be online, and you must pass a certification test following training.

New volunteers won’t be left on their own—experienced preparers will help you at the site, and another preparer will check all your work for accuracy.

If you don’t have a computer, no problem! Tax Aide will provide Chromebook laptops for your use during training and while you volunteer.

For more information on volunteering with the Tax Aide program, call the Cornell Cooperative Extension office at 845/292-6180 or email sullivan@cornell.edu
