Visit Narrowsburg on the Delaware

Posted

Nestled in the heart of the Upper Delaware River Valley, our hamlet has a certain allure that has welcomed visitors from anglers to Boy Scouts to movie stars—to you.

Stand on the bridge that crosses into Pennsylvania, or the lookout deck on Main Street, for an astounding view of the narrowest and deepest part of the Delaware River. In search of boutique shops, eclectic art and music and award-winning local restaurants? You came to the right place.

Head out for a stroll. The Upper Delaware is home to several hiking trails, including the picturesque Tusten Mountain Trail along the Ten Mile River and, across the river, the Damascus Forest Trail, featuring wetlands and old-growth forests.

The river is easily accessible for boating, fishing and swimming. Cast off from two river access areas located within a half mile of the Narrowsburg bridge. Further upstream in the Town of Cochecton, you’ll want to pack a lunch and sunscreen to sunbathe on the flat rocks at Skinner’s Falls, a set of white-water rapids.

Interested in taking on the water, rather than just taking it all in? A bevy of canoe liveries provide rental kayaks, canoes, tubes and lifejackets.

The Upper Delaware River is part of the National Park Service system, and home to monarch butterflies, white-tail deer and pristine water. From the Tusten Veterans Memorial Park at one end of Main Street to the Shops at Narrowsburg at the other end, you can watch ducks, buzzards and herons swooping over the Big Eddy. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of an eagle soaring overhead.

Hungry? Saturdays bring you the Narrowsburg Farmer’s Market, host to more than 15 farmers, food vendors and artisans offering locally grown and produced goods. Catch it weekly from May through October, rain or shine.

Besides great food, local restaurants host live music and trivia nights. On any given weekend, the Tusten Theater features performances and movies. There are art exhibits and gallery openings all over the place.

When you’re ready to wind down or shape up, there are yoga and fitness classes available right on Main Street.

Festivals are commonplace here in Narrowsburg, including the annual Riverfest, Deep Water Literary Festival, Big Eddy Film, Honeybee and Logging Days.

Venturing out of town (why would you want to?), you’ll find Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center—you know, where that big music festival was, back in ‘69—Resorts World Casino and The Kartrite Waterpark.

So, there’s a lot to do and see. But hey, we’re biased. Find out for yourself. It’s all waiting to be experienced here in Narrowsburg.
