HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — The Town of Highland received multiple complaints from concerned residents regarding the unsafe conditions at a property located in the hamlet of Highland Lake, and immediately commenced an investigation. The initial inspection yielded numerous life safety hazards present in the usage of the property at Carmine Lane. The property was in use as an unpermitted, unsafe summer camp for young boys.
As a result of critical New York State Fire and Building Code violations and violations of the Town of Highland Building Codes, which came to light as a result of inspections by representatives of the Town of Highland Code Enforcement and Building Dept., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Department of Health (DOH), and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), it was necessary to issue orders to vacate the premises at Carmine Lane in the Town of Highland, Sullivan County on July 12.
