NARROWSBURG — The Upper Delaware Council’s (UDC) 35th annual family raft trip attracted 95 guests on August 6 to paddle a scenic six-mile stretch of the Upper Delaware River from the Staircase Access in the Town of Lumberland, NY to Matamoras in Westfall Township, PA on a picture-perfect summer day.
The turnout included 92 adults and three children aged four to 12; the host livery offered discounted group rates, and the trip was coordinated by the UDC. Guests hailed from throughout the tri-state New York, PA and New Jersey region.
Kittatinny Canoes provided the rafts, paddles, life vests, morning shuttles and pre-launch safety briefings.
The UDC organizes this public event on the first Sunday of August each year on alternating sections of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River with the goal of promoting awareness and stewardship through direct contact with the recreational resource.
The Upper Delaware Council is the nonprofit organization that oversees a partnership composed of federal, state and local governments. That partnership cooperatively manages and conserves the 73.4-mile nationally designated Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.
