LIBERTY, NY — On Tuesday, May 23, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested two men after an investigation into a report of a burglary to a residence on Chestnut Street in the Village of Liberty.

Village of Liberty Police were originally called to the residence in the early morning hours of May 23 for a report that two individuals, who were known to the resident, had unlawfully entered their residence, assaulted them, threatened them with a handgun and fled. Subsequent investigation resulted in arresting Luis Murillo, 34, and Luis Soto-Bourdon, 50, both of Liberty, later that morning. 

Also recovered during the investigation was a realistic appearing BB gun. Murillo was charged with 1 count of burglary in the 1st degree a felony and 2 counts of assault in the 3rd degree, misdemeanors. He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 secured bond or $40,000 partially secured bond. Luis Soto- Bourdon was charged with 2 counts of burglary in the 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, felonies menacing in the 2nd degree and assault in the 3rd degree, misdemeanors. He was also arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 secured bond or $40,000 partially secured bond. 

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
