Two Liberty men arrested after stabbing incident

LIBERTY, NY — On Saturday, August 26, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested two men after an investigation into an incident that occurred in an apartment on South Main Street in the Village of Liberty. Village of Liberty Police were initially called to the apartment on South Main Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a report of an altercation. Upon arrival, officers found a 26-year-old male who had suffered several lacerations to his face and arms. Officers immediately began first aid in an attempt to aid the victim until Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived on the scene. The victim was transported via ambulance to Garnet Health Catskill where he was transferred to a Medivac helicopter and flown to Westchester Medical Center.

Additional officers on the scene were able to locate two individuals who were fleeing the scene a short distance away and take them into custody without incident. A short time later, officers were called to a residence on Chestnut Street where a second victim, a 33-year-old male, who had suffered a laceration to his face, was located. That victim was transported to Garnet Health Catskill where he was treated and released.

As a result of the investigation, Jose Luis, 30 was charged with assault in the 1st degree, assault in the 2nd degree, felonies and menacing in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, misdemeanors. The second individual taken into custody, Fernando Llano, 22 was charged with assault in the 1st degree, a felony and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree a misdemeanor.

Both were  arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of bail.

The Village of Liberty Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police, the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Village of Monticello Police Department.
