‘TIMBER!’ examines those who make trees their passion and profession

REGION — This month, internationally recognized photographer and director Paul Aresu will commence shooting “TIMBER!” a project that will celebrate the broad range of people who make trees their passion and profession.

From loggers to tree huggers, Aresu will exemplify the dynamic relationship that exists between people who make the felling, protection and cherishing of trees their life’s work.

“TIMBER!” will start shooting in early October in the Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreation Area—which includes its watershed in Sullivan County, NY—with a particular focus on Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA), which has a long history of logging.

“Because this is where ‘TIMBER!’ had its genesis, thanks to the annual Logging Days Festival in Narrowsburg, NY, we will begin by documenting this year’s festival and then on location through the region,” Aresu said. “But the scope of the project is global.”

“We will contrast clear-cutting in the Amazon and elsewhere with responsible forestry and of course look at the science of trees in relation to the air we breathe,” said Cynthia Nash, producer and writer for “TIMBER!”. “One episode will celebrate trees as the sites and symbols of religious and mystical beliefs.”

She continued, “Paul is preeminently qualified to shoot and direct this project because of his relentless energy coupled with his incredible ability to capture the essence of subject matter that involves action and passion.”

“TIMBER!” will illuminate the powerful presence of trees and forests throughout our world in a quest for a deeper understanding of how one of our greatest natural resources can be sustained in an era of increasing demand for natural products that are also a main source of the air we breathe and part of the landscapes we treasure.
