HAWLEY, PA — The young gardeners were amazed to see how much their plants have grown up after the last rains at the “Bookworm Friendship Garden” at the Hawley Library.
Armed with their diaries, pencils and rulers, they measured each plant and took note of development. They watered. And the best part? They took with them their first harvest—limited, for the moment, to kale and lettuce. They will have to wait for tomatoes, zucchini, beans, etc.
Asher, 6, was very clear: “I want to make some salad.”
The kids are participating in a program run by the Country Gardeners Club in partnership with the Hawley Public Library, in the community garden located at the back of the library.
Children interested in participating can register at the Hawley Public Library. Meetings are held every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
