The greatest gift of all

WHITE LAKE, NY — The Sullivan County Alzheimer’s Association committee and dedicated friends hosted a tricky tray at the White Lake Fire Department on June 17.

Over 100 donated prizes and gift certificates were displayed throughout the hall in gift baskets for the participants to chance their luck.

In addition to the main focus of the activity, one particular incident stood out and displayed an act of unconditional love and giving.

Tyler Kavleski and his older brother, Hunter, helped out before the event and were the runners who delivered the baskets to the winners.

Tyler was very lucky, because he won a fun basket focused on young people shortly into the calling.

A few minutes later he won another beautiful basket. He immediately ran to a woman in the crowd and handed her the basket saying, “I know you really wanted this basket and I want you to have it.”

They had only met that day. What an amazing act of kindness.

The event raised close to $4,000 and benefits the Alzheimer’s Association: Orange/Sullivan Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Money raised from it will support education, outreach and care counseling for individuals and families struggling with Alzheimer’s as well as research to find a cure.

The committee extends heartfelt thanks to the White Lake Fire Department, the many donors, volunteers and all who attended for making the fundraiser possible and so successful.
