BARRYVILLE, NY — Nonprofit history education group The Delaware Company has received a grant from Americana Corner’s Preserving America Grant Program.

Americana Corner is an online resource focused on the founding of our nation. The grant program helps organizations tell the story of America from its founding era through its first century as a nation.

Debra Conway, executive director of The Delaware Company said the grant will be used to help fund the operation of Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History in Narrowsburg.

Tom Hand, founder of Americana Corner, said, “I am thrilled to be able to help others across America tell our country’s wonderful story.”

“Our board of directors is committed to making Fort Delaware Museum a serious history venue by constantly improving our exhibits and programming, and we are grateful to Americana Corner for the financial help they are providing,” Conway said.

Americana Corner made the award announcement on February 22, in honor of George Washington’s birthday. In addition to The Delaware Company, awardees included Colonial Williamsburg, the American Battlefield Trust and the Gettysburg Foundation. In all, 121 organizations from 29 states and the District of Columbia will receive funding from the program in 2024.

The Delaware Company was founded in 2012 to promote and support the history and historic landmarks of the Upper Delaware River Valley and beyond. It has operated the Sullivan County-owned Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History in Narrowsburg since 2021.

Fort Delaware is located on the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway at 6615 Rte. 97. It is open seasonally; this year it will open on Saturday, May 25.
