HURLEYVILLE, NY — The fourth annual Indigenous Women’s Voices Series at the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) is titled “Teaching Freedom”; the event takes place from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 at HPAC.

A rope-making workshop will be followed by a film and lecture on the history and future of Indigenous education in the United States.

At 3 p.m. the film “Dawnland” will be screened; the Emmy-winning documentary explores the history of stolen Indigenous children and cultural survival.

A series of recent science fiction movies by Indigenous filmmakers will be screened at HPAC Cinema prior to the event. Each screening will be followed by a talkback.
