Talking about the solar maximum with Paul Todd-Favata

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Learn about the solar maximum, a rare astronomical event, at the  Livingston Manor Library on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m.

Paul Todd-Favata, Livingston Manor High School science teacher, invites children and adults of all ages to learn about this fascinating period of solar activity. The solar maximum is predicted to occur between late 2024 and early 2026 at the end of the sun’s 11-year cycle,  culminating in a crescendo of astronomic events.

Todd-Favata will discuss various aspects of the sun’s cycle, including how its energy is made and transferred, as well as how one can safely view sunspots, and more.

Keeping with the theme, this program will be followed by a special science-based craft at 12 noon in the library’s children’s room. The activity is perfect for children ages 5-10. Kids will upcycle soda bottles to create a magnetometer, capable of measuring changes in the Earth’s magnetic field.

Registration is recommended for both programs. Call the library at 845/439- 5440 or email LivingstonManorLibrary@rcls.org to sign up.
