LUMBERLAND, NY — The Town of Lumberland is starting 2024 with new leadership. Councilwoman Suzanne Edzenga took the oath of office Monday morning to become Lumberland’s next supervisor.
The town board appointed Edzenga to the position following the resignation of Jenny Mellan, who had served as supervisor since 2016.
“I’m very excited to take on this new opportunity”, said Edzenga. “I’m looking forward to working with the other board members to continue improving the quality of life for all residents of the town.”
Edzenga was originally elected to the town board in 2021. Prior to that, she had served as the chair and member of the Lumberland Planning Board.
Before becoming supervisor, Edzenga served briefly as the deputy town supervisor. She additionally serves as the executive director for NYS Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R-98th District).
A special election will be held in November to fill Mellan’s unexpired term. Edzenga said she will seek election for that term.
