Sullivan’s public bus program may expand

MONTICELLO, NY — Sullivan County Legislator Joseph Perello (R, 7) urges the county to expand the hours of Move Sullivan, the county’s public bus service, past 6 p.m.

People who rely on the bus to get home after work shouldn’t get stuck, he said.

Move Sullivan services are free. Buses from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serve Liberty, Fallsburgh, Monticello, Swan Lake, and Mongaup Valley.

During the first quarter of 2024, Move Sullivan had a daily ridership of just under 500 per day, according to county reports.

Laura Quigley, commissioner of the Sullivan County Division of Community Resources, said that she would price out the cost of expanding the service.

During public comment, a resident said he would really like to see bus stops included with the service. Another resident said it’s not right to let people wait in the cold, rain, or hot sun.
